The 11-minute movie earned significant recognition in 2024, winning the Annie Award for Best Animated Short Subject and later the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film. Inspired by John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s timeless anti-war anthem War Is Over (Happy Xmas), the film continues their message of peace for a new generation.

Directed by Dave Mullins, the film transports viewers to World War I, where two soldiers unknowingly play a heroic game of chess against each other. Their only link is a brave pigeon who carries their moves across enemy lines. The short film uses gentle storytelling and stunning animation to show that, in war, there are no real winners; only loss. Now that War Is Over is available on YouTube, its message of hope is reaching more people around the world.

Table of Contents

Toggle

War Is Over YouTube: What Makes it Stand Out?

Conclusion

War Is Over YouTube: What Makes it Stand Out?

People searching for “the war is over short film” or “war is over short film YouTube” often mention how touching the storyline is.
